Recycled Denim

What is denim?

Denim is a sturdy cotton fabric, woven in a way that gives it its signature diagonal texture. First used for workwear, denim has evolved into a classic everyday essential worn worldwide. However, conventional denim production can use vast amounts of water, release harmful dyes into rivers, and can be hard to recycle.

Our alternative: recycled cotton

Our heavy denim is made of 100% recycled cotton.

When we decided to add this wardrobe essential to our collection, we designed it with circularity in mind. Because denim is a heavy fabric, it requires a lot of raw material, in this case cotton, so we decided to use only recycled cotton to reduce the production's impact from the very first step. That's the first benefit: our jeans are made of recycled cotton, and nothing else.

The cotton we use is from pre-consumer waste: it comes directly from denim factories' floors, a type of waste that is often forgotten. Here is how it works: during the spinning process, the yarn is wound onto cones. The yarn has to remain whole on the cone, but it can break during the process. Later, the yarn is twisted into long ropes for dyeing, and here as well, parts will be wasted because they break or don't take the dye evenly. Instead of throwing this material away, it is gathered to be shredded into pieces and spun into new yarn. That's what our jeans are made of.

We have also decided to remove as many accessories as possible and replace them with sewn rivets to secure your belt loops and pockets, and a laser-printed fabric patch to replace the usual leather. In addition to the mono fiber, this makes our jeans easier to recycle when the time eventually comes.

But the goal is obviously to create classic, durable jeans that can last in time and in style. That's why we have chosen a timeless wash: a shade of blue that will never go out of trend. We have partnered with NordShield to treat the fabric with NordShield BioLayr®, a plant-based microbe and odor protection. This means fewer washes needed and longer life for the jeans. So next time, air your jeans out first, spot-clean when you can, and only wash when they really need it.

To sum it up, our jeans are made of circularity:

  • 100% recycled cotton

  • No fiber mix

  • Minimal trims

  • Timeless and durable

Light denim alternative

For those who prefer a lighter feel, we have also created a fresh take on the classic heavy denim: light denim made of 80% organic cotton and 20% recycled cotton. This fabric offers more flexibility in the designs and shows yet another alternative to the classic 100% virgin cotton denim. By using organic cotton, we support the work of indian farmers who have converted their lands to organic farming to move away from the toxic cycle of conventional farming, farmers who’ve transformed their land to grow without harmful chemicals, protecting their health, their soil, and their communities. By adding recycled cotton made from pre-consumer waste, we're reducing the amount of fabric being discarded from factory floors.

You'll find everything from pants to shirts and jackets, in our 80% organic, 20% recycled cotton light denim fabric.
